in Clean Energy (Kenya)

Access to clean energy remains a considerable challenge and a top govement priority in Kenya. As transition to decentralized energy and e-mobility moves a pace in Kenya, digital innovations become essential for optimization, monitoring, regulation and financing.

Startup|Energy is calling on innovators and spin-offs from Kenyan universities to take part in the Digital Energy Solutions Award 2024.

Have you developed a digital solution that can be used in the renewable energy sector? Then apply now and win up to 200,000 KSH!

Eligible to participate:

  • Students, (post-)docs and staff of all Kenyan universities
  • Startups (not older than 5 years) with a demonstrated affiliation to a Kenyan university

What do you have to show?

⇒  You have developed a digital solution that can be used in Kenya’s renewable energy sector, for example (the list below is only suggestive and not exhaustive):

  • To make energy production or distribution more efficient
  • To improve energy solutions for health, education, logistics, water, sanitation, efficiency, mobility, agriculture, among many other sectors. 
  • To support or enable financial services and product offerings  in clean energy sector
  • To measure or control or monitor energy consumption or production


⇒  You already have a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that you have tested with potential customers. Innovative ideas that have not progressed to MVP stage are not eligible.

⇒  You must submit a pitch deck containing six slides:
1. The problem / need
2. The solution / product offering
3. Target customers / market traction
4. How to reach customers / pricing strategy
5. Costing, Marging, Profitability
6. Team

And this is what you can win:

1. The winners will receive a cash prize:

  • 1st prize 200k KSH
  • 2nd prize 150k KSH
  • 3rd prize 100k KSH

2. Pitch at international Demo-Day:
Additionally the top five finalist will have the great opportunity to pitch their innovation and solution to international investors, organizations or potential cooperation partners at an virtual Demo-Day.

3. Increased visibility:
The three winners will also be featured in an article that will appear in Sun-Connect News (>10,000 subscribers worldwide).
