Clean Energy Bootcamp
For innovators at/from universities
1. Application
- Participants: Students or (post-)docs studying at the participating universities or participating in projects or programs there as well as staff of faculties. Most important is the quality and level of your innovation, not your status at the university.
- Innovation: The idea must be innovative and new and offer a solution in the CleanTech sector.
- State of the innovation: It is not just an initial idea, but there is already a Minimum Viable Product and/or initial experience with users/customers.
The Clean Energy Bootcamp brings together (post-)docs and master’s students from four universities in Uganda, Kenya and Germany to collaborate in workshops to further develop their Clean Energy innovations.
- At the Bootcamp in Nairobi you will have the opportunity to further develop and sharpen your innovative idea in discussion with other innovators and entrepreneurs.
- During the Bootcamp, you are not only one of the presenters, but also has to work creatively with the business ideas of other innovators.
- In keynote speeches, you receive further suggestions and information on the development of their business model and the Clean Energy market.
- On the practical day, you get to know local start-ups in everyday life and discuss with CleanTech organisations/investors.
- At the final Pitch Event on the last evening of the Bootcamp you have the opportunity to present your idea to a jury of experts, investors and stakeholders. The winner(s) will receive the Startup|Energy Award.
To apply, simply complete the questionnaire and submit by January 31, 2024.
No, individuals can also apply.
Up to three ideas per participating university will be admitted to the Bootcamp.
According to current planning, one person from each start-up idea can participate in the Bootcamp.
No, but your innovation should be geared towards possibly founding a startup with it.
Deadline for applications is January 31, 2024, midnight.
Application deadline is 31.01.2024.
Each university then selects up to 3 participating innovations from their applications.
Each selected innovation team then decides internally which team member will join the Bootcamp.
Each participating university selects the bootcamp participants from applications submitted to them or via them.
All applicants will be informed by 20 February 2024 whether their application for the bootcamp has been successful.

2. Bootcamp
The Bootcamp will take place in Nairobi (Kenya).
The bootcamp comprises 5 working days with workshops and discussions with local start-ups. At the end there is a public pitch event:
- April 10th: Arrival
- April 11/12th: Workshops
- April 13th: Practice Day: Meeting with local startups, investors
- April 14/15th: Workshops
- Evening April 15th: Public Pitch Event at Kenyatta University
- April 16th: Departure
You will present your innovation and business idea to other entrepreneurs and coaches and discuss it with them. But you can also discuss a single topic that burns under your nails, if that helps you more. During the Bootcamp, you are not only one of the presenters, but also has to work creatively with the business ideas of other startups.

There are no costs for the participants: Startup|Energy covers the costs for travel, accommodation and meals.
The Bootcamp will be held in English.
