The initiators

Purpose of the foundation, based in Freiburg i. Br. is the promotion of development aid, environmental protection, education and the implementation of projects in these fields. Since 2004, the Solar Energy Foundation has been involved in providing solar energy for rural development and poverty alledment in developing countries in Africa and Asia, especially Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda and the Philippines.

Its aim is to create a self-sustaining solar trade in the partner countries that reliably and permanently supplies people with solar energy and contributes to the economic growth of the partner country.

Local foundations exist in Ethiopia, Kenya and the Philippines. In Uganda, the Solar Energy Foundation supports a cooperative of local solar entrepreneurs. The Foundation has received numerous awards for its exemplary work.

Founded in 1457 as a full university, the Albert Ludwigs University still enables studies, doctorates and habilitation in all important disciplines. More than 24,000 students from more than 100 nations are enrolled in 180 courses at eleven faculties.

The University of Freiburg is often involved in the field of environment and sustainability: The Institute for Sustainable Technical Systems (INATECH), the Performance Centre For Sustainability (LZN) and the Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources are three examples of many.

The founding office of the university offers qualified help to all aspiring entrepreneurs when starting their independence and is part of the founding association Campus Technologies Oberrhein (CTO). The team of the founding office has many years of corporate and management experience and has advised and accompanied over 650 potential start-up projects in the last 15 years.
