1. Application

Individuals and teams who are in the (pre-)founding phase with their mature idea or whose start-up is no more than three years old can apply for the Energy Camp Freiburg.
If you only have a vague business idea, you should still work on it and apply later.

Startup|Energy supports the development of your new company in many ways:

  • You will receive intensive coaching from experienced entrepreneurs and experts. The sessions focus on the topics that need to be further developed or sharpened for the success of your company. This may concern your product itself, for example, or sales and marketing or the financial plan for successful investor search.
  • At the final workshop, you will have the opportunity to present your company idea to other startups and coaches and to have them critically questioned. But you can also discuss a single topic that burns under your nails, if that helps you more.
    During the workshop, you are not only one of the presenters, but also has to work creatively with the business ideas of other startups.
  • At the final startup| Energy Award You present your idea to a jury of experts and investors, such as the Black Forest Business Angels or the E-ccelerator of Thüga.
  • All start-ups will have the opportunity to present themselves free of charge at the “The Smarter E” trade fair (Munich, 9-11 June 2021) at a joint stand.
  • After all, you will become part of the growing Startup|Energy community. This gives you a number of offers:
    For these members of the community, online meetings are held regularly, where current topics of decentralized energy supply are presented and discussed.
    As a member of the community, you are also invited to participate in the following Energy Camps, both in Freiburg and East Africa. Unlike your first participation, however, you have to pay for your own costs.
    All startups that have successfully completed an energy camp are presented in the newsletter of the founding center of the University of Freiburg and in Sun-Connect News (worldwide more than 10,000 subscribers) in order to achieve as much public attention as possible.

A participation is therefore worthwhile permanently for you and your business idea!

Startup|Energy encompasses the full range of decentralized renewable energy supply and use:

  • Production from renewable energy sources
  • Measurement and control systems (control, distribution, billing)
  • Resilience Engineering (Safety and Reliability)
  • Storage
  • Distribution
  • Financing solutions
  • Applications to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as health, education, water, health, consumption, mobility.
  • Social, economic and social transformation processes

No. We also encourage start-ups from other countries, especially Switzerland and France, to apply for the local market with products.

A maximum of two people from each selected startup can take part in the workshop in Freiburg.

Unfortunately, no. The Energy Camps in Freiburg and East Africa each focus on start-up ideas for the local market.

No, but you should be ready to prepare for a business start-up.

Yes, but the start-up must not be more than two years ago.

A maximum of five startups will be selected to participate in the Energy Camp Freiburg.

Yes! Startup|Energy is open to all kinds of business ideas.

2nd coaching phase

The coaching sessions focus on the topics that need to be further developed or sharpened for the success of your company. This may concern your product itself, for example, or sales and marketing or the financial plan for successful investor search.

At the end of the coaching you should have developed a detailed presentation of your business idea. You will then present these at the workshop in Freiburg in front of the other start-ups as well as investors and experts.

The coaches are experienced entrepreneurs. Some of them come from the energy sector, partly from other sectors. We believe that it is often precisely the questions and suggestions of non-industry experts that can take you forward.

You can arrange this individually with the coach. Most of the time they will probably take place online (Skype, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.).

Yes. The coaching sessions are an important part of the Energy Camp. They help you perfect your business idea.

No. However, depending on the topic, the team members should participate, in whose competence the subject area is covered.

3rd Workshop and Competition

You will present your developed and sophisticated presentation in coaching to other startups and the other coaches and discuss it with them. But you can also discuss a single topic that burns under your nails, if that helps you more.
During the workshop, you are not only one of the presenters, but also has to work creatively with the business ideas of other startups.

  • All participating startups present their business concept to a jury at the end of the workshop. This consists, among others, of investors who are willing to invest in convincing business concepts.
  • To promote exchanges with African startups, two startups will receive free tickets to participate in the Energy Camp in Kampala (June 14-17, 2021). This offers a unique opportunity to get to know solutions for a decentralised renewable energy supply in this region. In addition, we are happy to organize meetings with potential business partners for you.
  • In addition, a cash prize is planned for the most creative business idea.
  • All start-ups will have the opportunity to present themselves free of charge at the “The Smarter E” trade fair (Munich, 9-11 June 2021) at a joint stand.

A maximum of two people can participate from each selected startup.

If you are invited to the workshop in Freiburg, Startup|Energy for you the cost of travel, accommodation and meals.

At the final startup| Energy Award You present your idea to a jury of experts and investors, such as the Black Forest Business Angels or the E-ccelerator of Thüga.

4. And after that?

All startups become part of the growing Startup|Energy community. This gives you a number of offers:

  • As a member of the community, you are also invited to participate in the following Energy Camps, both in Freiburg and East Africa. Unlike your first participation, however, you have to pay for your own costs.

  • In addition, the startups are presented in the newsletter of the startup-center of the University of Freiburg and in Sun-Connect News (more than 10,000 subscribers worldwide) in order to get as much public attention as possible.

Yes, this is possible if you bear the costs of travel, accommodation and meals yourself.
