Scientific research at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (Fraunhofer ISE) finally gave rise to a powerful idea: to develop a new type of monitoring system tailored to the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises.
The potential of energy efficiency is still underused. Renewable energies are promoted in many companies and administrations; however, simple, energy-saving measures are often shied away from. Discovering potential savings is often the first step towards taking action.
ENIT has developed a monitoring and control system for this purpose, the ENIT AGENT, which is intended to provide transparency and intelligent control and save up to 8% of energy costs. The necessary hardware is compatible with common energy meters in companies and can be installed quickly and easily. The company can then track all energy flows – electricity, heat and gas – in real time via web access and quickly identify potential savings. With innovative technology, the systems are also intelligently monitored and controlled: for example, the ENIT AGENT itself decides how the electricity is most efficiently generated or consumed, depending on whether the sun is shining or many systems require electricity at the same time. This saves money, energy and resources. The software grows with the energy management system of the companies and can thus be used in the long term.
